Closing Statement and Recommendations

For

International Conference on Mercy in Islam

28-29/04/1437 AH, Corresponding to 7-8/02/ 2016 AD

In the name of Allah, The All-Merciful, The Ever-Merciful

All praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds, who said {Say, (O Muhammad) "To whom belongs whatever is in the heavens and earth?" Say, "To Allah ." He has decreed upon Himself mercy}, and peace and blessing be upon the Prophet Muhammad, the mercy that has been sent to all creatures, who said: " "He who does not show mercy to others will not be shown mercy", and peace and blessing be upon his family and his companions, and thereafter:

Mercy is one the one of the profound features of Islam that Allah attributed to Himself in many verses of Qur'an, and made it as one the features of his prophet peace and blessing of Allah be upon him. Allah say, { but My mercy extends toall things." So I shall ordain it [especially] for those who fear Me and give Zakaah and those who believe in Our verses}, and in so many verses.

As for the prophet's Sunnah, it was elaborated with many sayings that called for Mercy, induced and required it whether explicitly or implicitly. The prophet peace and blessing of Allah be upon him said: "When Allah completed the creation, He wrote in a book which is with Him on His Throne, "My Mercy overpowers My Anger." al-Bukhary and Muslim.

Based on these religious texts and much more in the Holy Qur'an and in the Sunnah of the prophet peace and blessing of Allah be upon him, and to maintain the objectives of the department of Islamic studies at King Saud University, the department put a lot of efforts to hold (the International Conference on Mercy in Islam) at King Saud University. Researches from all over the world (47 nationalities) desired to participate in the conference . Furthermore, the number of abstracts that were submitted has reached five hundred and sixty abstracts (560). This shows and reflects not only the importance of the topic of this conference, but also the pressing need to spread the values of Mercy in Islam among people, especially in present time where efforts are exerted to distort the image of true Islam.

With Allah's grace and guidance, and after completing the required preparations, the International Conference has been held at King Saud University, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on 28-29/4 Hijri, corresponding to 7-8/2/2016 A.D.

The opening of the conference was under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince: Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdul-Aziz, Governor of Riyadh, and was attended by their Highness the princes, scholars, led by His Eminence the Mufti, President of the Council of Senior Scholars, Sheik Abdul-Aziz bin Abdullah
Al-Sheikh, their Excellences the ministers, senior Muslim scholars, and with the participation of more than four hundred persons from all over the world.

Conference sessions were held over two days, and witnessed significant attendance. This was coincided with a wide media coverage and social interaction that suit this significant event.

Through the papers that have been submitted, deliberations, discussions, and debates, the conference ended with a number of recommendations, namely:

1- The participants recommended to send a cable to show the gratitude to the custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdul-Aziz, for his efforts for the sake of Islam and Muslims at all levels, and to support him " May Allah protect him" in his policies and decisions to maintain the security of this country and support the oppressed Muslims.

2- The participants recommended to send a cable of thanks to His Royal Highness, Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdul-Aziz, Governor of Riyadh, for sponsoring the conference.

3- The participants express their gratitude to King Saud University, to the president of the higher committee of the conference Dr. Saud bin Salman bin Mohammed
Al Saud, to the head of the department of Islamic studies Prof. Abdul-Aziz bin Saud Al-diwihi, and to the members of the committees for their blessed efforts to present the conference in such an honorable image.

4- The Participants emphasize the importance of showing the meanings and purposes of Mercy in Islam, and establish the significance of Mercy character in dealing through religious texts in the Qur'an and Sunnah by Muslim scholars, preachers, and Islamic centers in the world.

5- The Participants emphasize the importance of showing the Mercy of all creatures in Islam through rites of worship and religious duties in the media by specialized scholars and presenting the pure message of the prophet "peace and blessings be upon him to the world, without suspicion and corrupt ideas and opinions, which are not consistent with the teachings of the Prophet "peace and blessings be upon him", by identifying the aspects of Mercy in his actions and words.

6- The participants in the conference emphasize the importance of monitoring of the practical applications of Mercy in the Islamic law by a specialized scientific center for the studies of Mercy in Islam. The center's name was suggested to be (The Center of the custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdul-Aziz for the studies  of Mercy in Islam).

7- Based on the importance of the papers that were presented through the conference, and due to the value in the that it covered since it was reviewed and refereed by top researchers in the field , the participants recommend to choose what addresses non-Muslims, and translate it into living languages of the world. Furthermore, the substance of these papers is a profound material  that is recommended to be circulated to all scientific, missionary, and educational institutions.

8- Calling mass-media with its different kinds to produce and broadcast a distinct and high quality programs aimed at enhance the value of Mercy in Islam.

9- Educational institutions should pay more attention to include the value of Mercy into the educational curricula and instill it in the hearts of young generation.

10- The importance of highlighting the value of Mercy in the International forums and global organizations.

11- Urging of businessmen and institutional donors to support the initiatives that aim at enhancing the value of Mercy  in societies.

12- Holding similar conferences about other Islamic values.  

13- forming a committee to follow up the conference recommendations, and to help in their implementation by the authorities in charge.
