Scientific societies are among the most important contributors to the academic life of any community, and they share with the university's various units in fulfilling its responsibility to serve society. The Saudi Society for Educational and Psychological Sciences (GESTEN) focuses on developing scientific thinking and continuous professional growth in its fields of specialization, and on fostering scholarly communication among its members. It also provides academic consultation, conducts specialized studies and research that enrich the educational literature, and holds meetings that enhance members' scholarly knowledge and help instill intellectual security and a balanced educational culture among participants.

The idea of establishing the Society originated with a group of educators in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, who recognized the importance of integrating efforts and fostering cooperation among specialists to advance education and psychology and strengthen their standing in society, in addition to the Society's role as a channel of communication among these specialists.
